People In Need

The Law Society has its own charity, People in Need, which can provide assistance to anyone who has a need and who applies to the charity.

The usual support sought and provided relates to the provision of school uniform and equipment for struggling families, the purchase of medical equipment, the provision of household basics such as white goods or small electrical appliances and assistance with contact and supporting parents in maintaining a relationship with a child or children by paying for supported sessions of contact.

The People in Need Charity is not overly wealthy, however Advocates do undertake a number of fundraising events to bolster its funds. The Law Society has seen an increased number of applications to the charity since 2023, whilst we have all been facing a cost of living crisis.

The charity is governed by Trustees, which include the President & Vice-President of the Society along with two Trustees elected from the Membership of the Law Society.
