RULES OF CONDUCT PAGE (previously Advocates Handbook)

In the conduct of their practice Advocates must comply with many Rules of conduct. These govern the way in which Advocates’ practices are structured; what is required to become an Advocate; what Advocates can and cannot do whilst practising.

The Rules are contained in various documents, some are Rules that have been made by the Society and others are rules which are contained in legislation passed by Tynwald. They must often be read together.

Below you will see the rules listed in order in drop down accordions which contains the Society’s Rules and the relevant legislation. Click on of the drop down accordion to see the contents for each of the Society’s Rules sections.

In addition, it should be noted that many of the Rules which govern Solicitors and Barristers in England and Wales also apply to Manx Advocates. Links to the bodies regulating these professions and their Rules can be found here;
